My Stash, My Style contest and giveaway!

Have you ever looked at a project in a book or in a magazine and passed it over because you thought, it's just not your style? If you're anything like me, probably about a thousand times! How about changing it and making it your own?

I recently had the pleasure of meeting the lovely and talented Jenifer Gaston, author of Primitive Style. And while you would think at first glance, our styles are from opposite ends of the spectrum, think again! The truth is, you can take any project and change it up as much as you want to make it uniquely your own. So we set out to make some of each other's projects to reflect our own styles and see what we came up with. The opportunities were endless - and the results were great!

We had so much fun playing, we're hosting the My Stash My Style contest and giveaway along with Martingale/That Patchwork Place to give you a chance to stretch your creative muscles, share your projects, and have a chance to win some awesome prizes to boot! Jeni and I will be sharing our own projects in the next few weeks on our blogs and on Facebook and Instagram.

Here's the skinny:

1. Choose a project from the book Stash Lab by Tonya Alexander OR the book Primitive Style by Jenifer Gaston. (The further a project is from your typical style and stash, the better!)

2. Reimagine, redefine, and remake that project in your own style, using your stash, your point of view, and your creativity. Change the colors, change the dimensions—even change the purpose of the project. It’s entirely up to you!

3. Post your finished project to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #mystashmystyle and share how you changed it up. We can’t wait to see what you  come up with!

Complete steps 1-3 by May 2nd and you’ll be officially entered into the My Stash, My Style contest! So, what prizes are up for grabs?

Prize pack includes:

A free one-year subscription to Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine, co-owned by Jeni Gaston, author of Primitive Style
  •  A specially curated bundle of fabrics from Tonya Alexander, author of Stash Lab
  •  A beautiful bundle of wool from The Woolen Willow
  •  A $50 gift certificate from publisher Martingale to spend at their website, ShopMartingale.com

Ready to play? We'll kick off the contest with a giveaway this week of an electronic copy of Jeni Gaston’s book Primitive Style and one of my book Stash Lab.  To be entered for the giveaway, leave a comment below about your stash style or a style you would like to try. We'll draw a winner on Wednesday, March 23rd so you can get started on your projects right away. A winner will also be drawn over on Jeni's blog, so be sure to stop there for a visit for two chances to win!

Follow along anytime on Instagram #mystashmystyle @tonyaalexanderquilts @jenifergaston

We hope you'll join us in MY STASH, MY STYLE! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Happy Stash quilting,

Tonya

  1. I would love to make my stash a little more modern. I have been pretty traditional in my quilting and love it but would like to brighten things up a bit.

  4. I'd love to try a wool primitive style quilt one day! As far as my stash goes, it mostly land towards pink girly or darks Halloween.

  5. This is a great idea. I'm relative new to quilting but have fabric from lots of different styles. My quilts are scrappy and my stash is all over the place. Being new, I keep trying different styles. I would like to try primitive style soon.

Thanks for offering the ebooks as a giveaway.

  8. My style is happy, bright and cheerful. The brighter and sunnier the fabrics, the better! So I'd like to try something more traditional and push those boundaries.

  9. Tonya, I always love the fabrics you pick, I'd say my style is close to yours with lots of colors. The challenge to me would be to do one of the primitive style quilts with bright colors.

  13. I have taken traditional patterns and updated them with modern fabrics. I enjoy converting blocks with newer fabrics. Thank you for the inspiration.

  14. I started off collecting small flowered calicoes because they were the traditional fabrics for quilting. Then I collected solids and did Amish style quilting! I discovered batiks and bright hues! Now I started combining them all and using them like players in a symphony to make the fabric music that I like! Sometimes the music is modern and sometimes old fashioned but it's mine!

  17. My style is eclectic though it's heavier in the medium tones the most. From Kaffe, to batiks, to many prints, solids, and even repro-s, etc..., it all depends which way my muse kicks me while I'm shopping. LOL
Always makes for a fun time and an unusual quilt finish.
    Nice concept, thanks!

  18. Hi Tonya,
While my "go to" style has been more traditional with primitive and civil war era fabrics, I am finding myself dabble with brights and batiks in my smaller projects and gift giving. I am so inspired by other Quilter's around me & by reading what others are doing on blogs, I want to try s bit of everything. Thank you for the opportunity to win your new book.

  19. This looks like a real fun project, would love to check out both of your new books. My style is primitive, but I have and love country, batik, homespun and funky bright stuff. A little aunt gracies too. It will be fun to see what people come up with for this challange. Time to get busy

  20. I have always leaned toward very traditional fabric, reproductions, country, and primitive. Mostly darker colors, but now I find myself buying 1930's brights and batiks. I guess our taste change as we age.

  22. My stash is very eclectic because of my changing likes! I would love to try some of the patterns in Halloween fabric or batiks! I also might try in my black and whites!

  23. My stash combines some traditional with some modern fabrics but is pretty much devoid of darker primitive type fabrics.
